How is the BNC Connector Connected?

31/03/2022 Yue

1. Wire stripping

The coaxial cable is composed of protective rubber, metal shielding network wire (grounding shielding wire), milky white transparent insulation layer and core wire (signal wire) from outside to inside. The core wire is composed of one or more copper wires, and the metal shielding net wire is a metal net woven by metal wires. The inner and outer wires are filled with milky white transparent insulation, and the inner and outer wires remain coaxial, which is called coaxial cable. Use a knife to strip the outer protective glue of the coaxial cable for 1.5cm, be careful not to cut the metal shielding wire, and then strip the milky white transparent insulating layer outside the core wire for 0.6cm to expose the core wire.

2. Connecting core wire

The BNC connector purchased is composed of BNC connector body, shielded metal sleeve and core pin, which is used to connect the core wire of coaxial cable. After stripping, please insert the core wire into the small hole at the tail of the core wire pin and clamp it with the small groove at the front end of the special clamp to press the core wire into the small hole. Electric soldering iron can be used to weld the core wire and core wire pins. Put a small amount of rosin powder or neutral flux into the small hole at the tail of the solder core and then weld. During welding, be careful not to expose the solder on the outer surface of the core wire foot, which will cause the core wire foot to be scrapped. Note: if there is no special clamp, it can be replaced by electrical clamp, but one thing to pay attention to: do not make the core wire pin deform too much. Another thing is to compress the core wire to prevent poor contact.

3. Assemble BNC connector

After connecting the core wire, first insert the shielding metal sleeve into the coaxial cable, then insert the core pin forward from the tail hole of the BNC connector body to make the core pin extend outward from the front end, and finally push the metal sleeve forward to make the sleeve clamp the outer metal shielding wire at the cylinder at the tail of the BNC connector body.

4. Crimping

The hexagonal clamp on the shielding sleeve shall be in good contact with the hexagonal clamp on the metal sleeve. Repeat the above method, and make BNC connector at the other end of coaxial cable. Before use, it is best to check with a multimeter. Both open circuit and short circuit will cause communication failure and may damage the network card or hub. Note: a small screwdriver and electrician's pliers are required for the assembled BNC connector. After stripping the wire according to the above method, insert the core wire into the core wire fixing hole, then fix the core wire with a small screwdriver, screw the outer metal shielding wire together, fix it in the shielding wire fixing sleeve with electrician pliers, and finally screw the tail metal on the BNC connector body. Soldering iron is required to make welded BNC connectors. After stripping the wire according to the above method, just use an electric soldering iron to weld the core wire and shielding wire to the welding point on the BNC head, and then put on the hard insulating sleeve and soft tail sleeve.
