How to choose the fiber jumper of the optical module?
22/07/2020 2
Now, the big data network has completely integrated into our lives. Among them, optical modules and fiber jumpers are becoming more and more important in network communications. However, there are many types of optical modules, and the transmission distance, data rate, interface, simplex and double tapping of different optical modules will be different. How to choose matching optical fiber jumpers for optical modules? Let's take a look together below.
1. Transmission distance and data rate are different
There are various transmission rates and transmission distances of optical modules. We need to choose matching fiber jumpers for optical modules. The fiber jumpers selected for different transmission rates and different transmission distances are not the same, otherwise it will cause unnecessary waste or loss.
2. Interface (SC, LC, FC, ST, MPO/MTP, etc.)
When choosing fiber optic patch cords, the interface is an essential consideration for comparing interface types. We know that the optical fiber interface is the physical interface used to connect the fiber optic cable. We can classify it according to the type of fiber jumper connector. There are usually SC, LC, FC, ST, MPO/MTP and other types. Different optical modules correspond to different optical fiber interfaces. The interface of a common optical module usually has two ports (one for receiving optical signals and one for transmitting optical signals), namely duplex SC or duplex LC. Therefore, duplex SC/LC fiber jumpers are required. In recent years, the newly introduced BiDi optical module has only one port (which can receive and transmit optical signals), so simplex fiber jumpers are required.
3. Single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic patch cords
According to different transmission modes, fiber optic jumpers can be divided into single-mode fiber jumpers and multi-mode fiber jumpers. Single-mode fiber optic patch cords use 9/125 fiber diameter fiber glass and the outer sheath is yellow, while multimode fiber optic patch cords use OM1 62.5/125 fiber diameter or OM2 50/125 fiber diameter fiber optic glass, and the outer sheath is orange. There are 10G OM3 and OM4 multimode fiber jumpers. Different jumpers are suitable for different usage scenarios. Single-mode fiber jumpers can support long-distance transmission, and multi-mode fiber jumpers are suitable for short-distance transmission.
4. Simplex/duplex fiber jumper
Simplex means that this fiber jumper has only one fiber and only one fiber connector at each end, which is used for single fiber bidirectional (BIDI) optical modules. Duplex can be regarded as two fiber jumpers side by side, usually used for ordinary optical modules.
